The Outlands Shifter

No one has ever kissed me the way Nathaniel Fortescue did, and I’d burned for him to go deeper.

Format:
Audiobook.

Publisher’s Synopsis:
I crave adventure and a real man, the kind who sweeps a woman off her feet and steals her breath away. But all I get in grad school is losers who don’t even know how to kiss. My friends talk me into a day trip to an Old West ghost town for “fun.” It’s a truly lame excursion—until I’m catapulted back in time and straight into the arms of Sheriff Nathaniel Fortescue, the hottest British cowboy ever.

Kylie Drummond is not like any woman in the Devil’s Outlands. She speaks strangely and dresses strangely, but unlike anyone else in this town, she does not fear me. That’s her first mistake. I’ve been cursed to walk the night as a wolf ravening for blood, though Kylie will never know that. To protect her from me and from the Outlands’ worst elements, I must find a way to send her home—wherever or whenever that may be.

Nathaniel thinks I can’t figure out his secret, but I’ve read enough novels about werewolves to get the picture. The attraction between us is red-hot and dangerous. Am I destined to save him? Or to destroy us both? When Nathaniel’s past sins threaten to unleash unspeakable evil, it’s not a matter of where we can hide. It’s a matter of when.

Rellim’s Audiobook Review:
This is book 1 in Anna Durand’s The Devil’s Outland series.

All-around fun listen. A mashup of Time Travel, Shifter, Paranormal & Western romance featuring a spunky heroine and grumpy but caring hero. The banter between these two was a lot of fun. I also enjoyed the world building and the dynamic the secondary characters brought to the story. Enjoyable balance of steam and mystery/suspense.

Durand manages to pack a lot into 6 hours. The ending wrap up is a little quick – but wanting more of Nathaniel and Kylie’s story is a good thing.

I’m excited for book 2, The Outlands Demon – which features their now grown daughter.

Narration:
Mackenzie Cartwright and Shane East were great here. They’re both talented at bringing all the characters to life. Especially fun was the way they brought to life Nathaniel’s confusion by Kylie’s modern vocabulary.

About the author:
Anna Durand is a bestselling, multi-award-winning author of contemporary and paranormal romance. Her books have earned bestseller status on every major retailer and wonderful reviews from readers around the world. But that’s the boring spiel. Here are some really cool things you want to know about Anna!

Born on Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, Anna grew up moving here, there, and everywhere thanks to her dad’s job as an instructor pilot. She’s lived in Texas (twice), Mississippi, California (twice), Michigan (twice), and Alaska—and now Ohio.

As for her writing, Anna has always made up stories in her head, but she didn’t write them down until her teen years. Those first awful books went into the trash can a few years later, though she learned a lot from those stories. Eventually, she would pen her first romance novel, the paranormal romance Willpower, and she’s never looked back since.

My Favorite Quotes

“You don’t sound like Colin Firth.”
“Is he your lover? Or your betrothed?” My breathing has become quicker, shallower, and I feel the need to batter this Colin Firth she mentioned.

“You know, you’re not half bad when you aren’t snarling at me. In fact, you’re kind of hot.”

“No one has ever kissed me the way Nathaniel Fortescue did, and I’d burned for him to go deeper.”
