Letting Go

It’s kind of hard to dream when you’re too busy trying to keep the nightmares at bay just so you can make it through each day.

Publisher’s Synopsis:
After years of running from her brutal past, Casey Wilkes has finally managed to carve out a quiet life running an animal shelter with her best friend in a small Northern Wisconsin town. And even though her menagerie of unwanted animals can’t keep the nightmares at bay she can at least finally breathe again. But everything changes when a mysterious stranger walks into the shelter with news of her sister’s death and a plan to get custody of the niece Casey never knew she had.

Multi-millionaire Devlin Prescott made a promise to protect the child of the woman who saved his son’s life and if keeping that promise means dragging Casey back into her past kicking and screaming then so be it. After all, it’s just another business deal.

But what he finds is a damaged woman struggling to put the pieces of her life back together and her quiet strength, steely determination and gentle heart have him questioning his methods and his feelings.

Can he find a way to keep his promise to a little girl and still prevent Casey from slipping back into a life that may end up destroying her for good?

Rellim’s Thoughts:
Devlin is used to using his money and connections to get whatever he wants and Casey is used to hiding from her past and protecting her secrets with ferocity. Devlin (36) has custody of Casey’s (21) orphaned niece and needs Casey’s secrets to keep them safe. It’s a difficult road to romance and redemption for them all.

Despite containing mentioned characters and a little backstory on Jonas from Salvation – Kennedy doesn’t list this book in the reading order for her series, Protectors. On her website Kennedy states it isn’t her strongest writing and it’s not M/M(/M) which is what her readers prefer.

While I agree it’s not as strong as her other books, it’s still a solid read and I’d recommend it. If you find the jarring changes in POV to be offputting – rest assured she grows as a writer and handles this much more smoothly in future books.

About the author:
Although Sloane Kennedy always dreamed of being a writer as a teenager, she didn’t take the plunge until 2015 when she released her first novel. Since then, she has released over 40 books including the Amazon best-selling “Pelican Bay” and “Protectors” series as well as the “Twist of Fate” series she writes with Lucy Lennox.

While she initially began writing M/F romance, she found her true passion writing MM romance. In addition to consistently making it onto Amazon’s overall bestseller list, Sloane has recently optioned the film and television rights for her Pelican Bay Series and the Twist of Fate Series (with Lucy Lennox) to an Emmy-nominated producer.

Sloane was born in Germany but grew up in the U.S. and although she currently lives in Wisconsin, the place where she has always felt most at home is Seattle and many of her books take place in the Emerald city. When not writing, a menagerie of 4 dogs, 7 cats and 3 horses takes up what little time she has left in the day!

Well, be careful around Casey here. She’s already talked us into four dogs, two cats, a one eared hamster, three lizards and a parrot that only speaks German. – Letting Go by @sloane_kennedy #Romance #AgeGap #Nanny #Drama
