Publisher’s Synopsis:
Half-shifter Shaya Critchley may hold a submissive role in her pack, but she’s done taking orders. After her Alpha wolf mate refused to claim her—but committed to interfering in her life—she took off. Now she hides from him, posing as a human in a town full of anti-shifter extremist groups. She thinks he’ll never find her again, and that suits her just fine. But she’s wrong.

Nick Axton can barely control his feelings for Shaya, but he could never claim her—not if he truly cares for her. The degenerative brain condition he keeps secret would ultimately leave her with a burden rather than a mate. But when Shaya runs away, Nick can’t bear the thought of never seeing her again. After tracking her down, he discovers Shaya’s feisty and passionate side in the process…a side he’d never seen before.

Under the menacing gazes of territorial local packs and violent human extremists, Nick vows to finally claim the spirited Shaya…and despite her initial resistance, Shaya just might find his fiery determination to be the ultimate aphrodisiac.

Point of view:
3rd person.

Rellim’s Thoughts:
This is the 3rd book in the Phoenix Pack series. I wouldn’t consider these stand alone as each book builds off events from previous books. These are fairly formulaic and written in a style that I typically avoid – but I’m not going to mention that in the reviews anymore. Because, I’m hooked. I own the whole series on audio and I’ve listened numerous times.

I appreciated that the story line is a bit of a departure from the first two and I enjoyed it. It’s not my favorite of the series – likely because I enjoyed the secondary & tertiary characters more than Nick & Shaya. While this book is part of Wright’s Phoenix Pack series, it is the birth of what becomes the Mercury Pack. (see below for how the two series intertwine) I think that’s also what makes both of these series compelling – while each couple has their own book, there are ongoing story lines and backgrounds for other characters that make the whole world that much more enjoyable.

Jill Redfield continues to be amazing. This is a HUGE cast of characters, male and female, young and old ~ and she gives them all unique voices and characteristics that stay consistent throughout the series.

Series Notes:
The Phoenix Pack books are intertwined with Wright’s Mercury Pack series.

About the Author:
From Suzanne Wright’s website: I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t writing something, whether it was stories, poems, or even songs – though I can’t carry a tune. I only have one rule when I’m writing a book which is that it has to have a happy ending. Other than that, pretty much anything goes. I write stories that I would enjoy reading and then I just hope that others will enjoy them too.

I was born and raised in England where I live with my husband (a person who doesn’t judge me for hearing voices in my head – how often do you come across people like that?), and my two demanding children.
