Format:
Audible. Available to borrow via Kindle Unlimited with audio included.

Publisher’s Synopsis:
She’s a lone wolf with a cause.

As a volunteer at a shelter for lone shifters – the same one that rescued her – Makenna Wray has dedicated her life to finding homes for its residents. And when she discovers that a teen in her care is related to Ryan Conner, the broody, handsome-as-sin enforcer of the Phoenix Pack, she’s eager to help connect the two. She just wasn’t prepared to feel a connection of her own.

Lone wolves are loners for a reason – and most of them bad. Or so Ryan assumes until he meets the mysterious Makenna. Quirky and sensual, she seems to enjoy riling him, especially when she refuses to discuss her past. Although there is no mating bond, he’s sure she’s the one. All he has to do is be patient and wait. But when another pack’s sinister Alpha comes sniffing around, threatening Makenna and her shelter, this enforcer is ready to let his wolf off the leash….

Point of view:
3rd person.

Rellim’s Thoughts:
This is written in a style that I normally loathe ~ this kind of chaotic back and forth, even mid paragraph, lines from various characters and their inner thoughts. I don’t know if it’s Jill Redfield’s absolutely fantastic narration or what ~ but I ADORE these books. I’ve listened to them multiple times. They’re funny, emotional, sweet, s-e-x-y as heck, irreverent, and sometimes downright corny. As far as sex, this is possessive alpha-male shifter mate intense sex, internal monologue, and there will always be at least one instance of anal in every book. It’s apparently a shifter thing in Wright’s world.

I was especially looking forward to this one as we finally get to know what’s going on inside the grunty but otherwise stoic Ryan. Kenna was absolutely his perfect match, a wonderful new character, and the introduction of the rescue center opened up a new batch of characters as the series continues.

Narration:
Have I mentioned Jill Redfield is AMAZING. This is a HUGE cast of characters, male and female, young and old ~ and even though the packs are expanding and merging, she still manages to give them all unique voices and characteristics. You know exactly who is talking at any given time.

Series Notes:
The Phoenix Pack books are intertwined with Wright’s Mercury Pack series.

About the Author:
From Suzanne Wright’s website: I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t writing something, whether it was stories, poems, or even songs – though I can’t carry a tune. I only have one rule when I’m writing a book which is that it has to have a happy ending. Other than that, pretty much anything goes. I write stories that I would enjoy reading and then I just hope that others will enjoy them too.

I was born and raised in England where I live with my husband (a person who doesn’t judge me for hearing voices in my head – how often do you come across people like that?), and my two demanding children.
