Lachlan MacTaggart did not add up. Could I lose my heart to a near stranger? My head shouted no. My heart screamed yes, yes, yes.

Dangerous in a Kilt
Publisher’s Synopsis:
Good-girl Erica Teague is out on bail, charged with a crime her ex-lover committed. A lifetime of sticking to the rules has left her broke, burned, and facing a trial and certain conviction, thanks to the evidence planted by her trust-funder ex. Desperate to experience one wild night of sizzling sex before her freedom is torn away from her, Erica heads to a notorious night club in search of a one-night stand — where a case of mistaken identity lands her in the arms of a hot Scot with a secret past.
The passion igniting between them is explosive, but Lachlan MacTaggart wants nothing to do with relationships or commitment. When he offers Erica one month of sex and companionship with no strings, she can’t resist succumbing to her electric lust for the Scotsman. Soon, though, Erica’s ex begins harassing her and Lachlan’s haunted past catches up with him. When their hot fling gets personal, the last thing either of them wanted may become the one thing that frees their imprisoned hearts.
Point of view:
1st Person. All from Erica’s POV.
Rellim’s Thoughts:
This is my first time reading/listening to Anna Durand. This is a good book when in the mood for a lot of steamy sex scenes making up a bulk of the story. While not particularly risqué/graphic, the proportion made this feel more like erotica than romance. Not a complaint, just an FYI.
Erica & Lachlan enter into a “no personal details” month-long fling while he’s visiting the US & she’s awaiting trial for a crime she didn’t commit. Since the story is all from Erica’s POV and they’ve agreed to a “keep it light and don’t share too much” arrangement – I didn’t really get to know Lachlan as well as I would have liked to. He definitely knows how arrange some lovely dates and brings the protective nature against Erica’s ex. May/December is one of my favorite tropes – while Lachlan is 42 & Erica is 28, other than the convo revealing that info the age difference doesn’t really factor in.
Overall, it was a fun read and I’ll definitely be reading/listening to the rest of the series.
I went to listen to book 2, Wicked in a Kilt, and found there’s a bonus scene of Chapter 1 from Lachlan’s POV narrated by Ged Bowie.
Narration:
This was my first time listening to Rinelle Harkin. I can’t pinpoint why and I have no clear objection to her narration – I just didn’t click with Harkin’s performance for some reason. So I opted to finish the book by reading it. I’m definitely willing to try out another work of hers and see if it’s just a one-off for some reason.
Update: The bonus scene performed by Ged Bowie was nice.
Note: I already owned the ebook. However, I did received a free copy of the MacTaggert Brothers Trilogy audiobook from a contest on Anna Durand’s Twitter and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
About the author:
Anna Durand is a bestselling, multi-award-winning author of contemporary and paranormal romance. Her books have earned bestseller status on every major retailer and wonderful reviews from readers around the world. But that’s the boring spiel. Here are some really cool things you want to know about Anna!
Born on Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, Anna grew up moving here, there, and everywhere thanks to her dad’s job as an instructor pilot. She’s lived in Texas (twice), Mississippi, California (twice), Michigan (twice), and Alaska—and now Ohio.
As for her writing, Anna has always made up stories in her head, but she didn’t write them down until her teen years. Those first awful books went into the trash can a few years later, though she learned a lot from those stories. Eventually, she would pen her first romance novel, the paranormal romance Willpower, and she’s never looked back since.
