Never in his life would he have imagined he’d be having the “what are your intentions?” talk with a fifth grader.

Format:
Audiobook. Also available as ebook
The Wishful series has been bundled into economical box sets and this book is included in Volume 3: ebook & audio (scroll down for audio sets).
Publisher’s Synopsis:
Jace Applewhite is home for the holidays, helping out on his family’s Christmas tree farm and enjoying some much needed downtime between semesters of grad school. He’s intrigued by the sexy and serious barista from The Daily Grind, but she’s got a Hand’s Off vibe that can be seen from miles away.
Tara Honeycutt missed most of her college years being single parent to her two younger half siblings. Working multiple jobs, she’s forgotten what it’s like to be a normal twenty-something. All her focus is on giving the kids some new holiday memories.
When a major gas line breaks, leaving them with no heat, no hot water, and no way to cook for Christmas, Jace invites Tara and her sibs out to Applewhite Farms. Will a good old fashioned farmhouse Christmas be enough to get Tara to give him a second glance?
Point of view:
3rd Person. Alternating perspectives, not always by chapter, but it’s clearly defined.
Rellim’s Thoughts:
This is a cute novella adding to the Wishful world. It’s set during the Christmas season and runs somewhat concurrently with Be Careful With My Heart & Just for This Moment (books 3 & 4). There aren’t really any spoilers to other books – but as there are a lot of folks to keep track of in Wishful, it’s helpful to listen to the series in order.
Tara has been a small secondary character up until now and it was so sweet to listen to Jace woo her. Tara has been so busy adjusting to role of mom to her much younger siblings that’s she’s basically in survival mode. I appreciate that when Nolan includes children, she makes them an integral part of the story in a realistic way. Jace not only falls in love with Tara, but with Austin and Ginny as well. The whole Applewhite family envelopes the Honeycutts and makes this listen sugarplum sweet.
As a novella covering a short time period, this ends more as an HFN – but I’m sure we’ll hear more about Jace & Tara as the series goes on.
Note: I’ve tagged this as “New Adult” and Tara is only 21 but she has major responsibilities, so this doesn’t have the typical NA/College age feel to it. It’s simply to remind me the MCs are younger. In regards to the “Closed Door” tag, there’s actually no sex scenes at all, nothing more than a kiss between the MCs.
Narration:
Amy McFadden rocks this again. She continues to give all the folks of Wishful unique voices and mannerisms. I also couldn’t help but adore Ginny’s voice and enthusiasm. So cute! I continue to enjoy this writer/narrator team.
About the author:
Kait Nolan is a RITA® Award-winning Mississippi author who calls everyone sugar, honey, or darlin’, and can wield a ‘Bless your heart’ like a Snuggie or a saber, depending on requirements. She believes in love, laughter, and that tacos are the world’s most perfect food. When she’s not writing, reading, working the evil day job, or wrangling family (both the two-legged and the four-), you can find her obsessively watching The Great British Bake Off.

About the narrator:
From Amy McFadden’s website: Hi! This part is all about me. Just me. It feels weird to write a bunch of stuff about myself but I don’t like pictures of me so I’ll have to use words instead.
I live in Michigan with my fiancé, Joe Anderson. He makes me laugh so much I never have to do situps. Truthfully, I probably wouldn’t do situps anyway, but hey, it’s still a nice bonus to our love.
I’m an actress now, and I used to be a 2nd grade teacher. I loved that part of my life, but after doing it for a bunch of years, I was ready to move on to the next version of me. They’re not really very different versions-teachers and actresses both reach out and engage people through stories. I’m NOT a morning person, but waking up to tell stories makes mornings better-than-tolerable.
I love books and the Muppets and smart people and kind people (not necessarily in that order) and sleeping and chocolate and coffee and writers and learning and Oreo cookies and a bunch of other stuff-but I’m starting to make myself gag on all this love.
I hate a bunch of stuff, too, but who cares about that junk? It’s probably the same stuff you hate, so I won’t bore you. Except I REALLY hate listening to people eat bananas.
