Update: ebooks 1-3 of the series have been combined into a single set, Assignment: Adventure.
SpyCo operative Perry Hall has one more chance to serve justice on his wife’s killer, a man he has sought for years. But now, the pursuit lands Perry in the crosshairs of his own agency, as he defies a direct order to continue the chase.
As SpyCo’s top agents converge in Istanbul with orders to take him out, Perry races through the city streets, searching for the deadliest killer he’s ever faced.
From the dark underground of an ancient cistern to the lonely sound of the ezan, Istanbul comes alive in this thrilling adventure of high-stakes espionage, the third book in the SpyCo Novella Series.
Point of view:
While each novella is an enjoyable and complete adventure on its own – secondary events and storylines build on previous books and the series should be listened to in order. As such, this review may contain spoilers for previous books. These are a fun mix of espionage, thriller, mystery, & suspense with a dash of humor.
The end of Assignment: Paris teased this book as an opportunity for Perry to finally avenge his wife’s death. Unfortunately, this goes against the orders of SpyCo HQ and Burke & Lindsey are called in to eliminate their friend. New operatives are introduced, things are not as they seem, no one knows who to trust, and Fleming remains safe. I appreciate that Hart & Varengo continue to write smart, capable, and equally snarky female characters.
The ending definitely teases Assignment: Sydney and I’m enjoying binging this series.
Michael Berry is my favorite narrator of the series so far. I really connected with his delivery and found his voices, accents, and inflections to be consistent. He brought the SpyCo operatives to life and I hope to hear more of his work in the future.

Scott James (S.J.) Varengo was born in 1960, (fifty years to the day after the passing of Mark Twain – take from that what you will), in a city called New York. Two years later he formed a band called The Beatles . He returned to New York City to attend Fordham University (having been told it was a basketball powerhouse) before transferring to the State University of New York at Potsdam (having been told it was located in the tropics), from which he earned a bachelor’s degree in Art History. (Aside from the handsomely framed diploma and his ability to run art categories on Jeopardy, it hasn’t really paid off).
