Blowback

If they really were looking for him, Recker knew it was only a matter of time before they found him.

Mike Ryan
Blowback

Format:
Audiobook

Note: The books have been bundled into box sets. I listened to this as part of Volume 1.

Publisher’s Synopsis:
After the circumstances of Agent 17’s death, the CIA turns to a specialist to help track down the man they think is responsible–John Smith. Though Recker knows Centurion is coming, he doesn’t change how he operates and winds up on police surveillance cameras. Feeling the walls closing in, Jones wants to pack up and move to a new city, though Recker has reservations about leaving. It all boils down to a final confrontation between Recker and his former employers–one he may not survive.

Point of view:
3rd person. Various perspectives.

Rellim’s Thoughts:
Blowback is book 4 in Mike Ryan’s The Silencer series. These are best read/listened to in order and events in this book build off of what happened in earlier books. As such this review may contain spoilers to books 1-3.

There’s a TV episodic feel both in length & story structure. I like that while these are easy to listen to, they aren’t overly predictable.

This one has a Jason Bourne-ish feel to it as the CIA/Centurion is now determined to find Recker (known to them as Smith) and ascertain whether he was behind the killing of Agent 17. David is strongly suggesting they relocate as their vigilantism has drawn too much attention. Things change with Mia (my personal Yay! stamp on this).

Narration:
Brian Hutchison continues to be a solid choice for the series. He does a good job with the various characters’ personalities and voices. I’m enjoying his performance.

About the author:
Mike is a USA Today Bestselling Author. He grew up and resides in Bucks County, PA.  He lives with his wife, Liz, and four children. He also has three dogs–two Labs, and a mixed breed that was rescued from the woods as a puppy. He is an avid animal lover and supporter of animal rights.

In his spare time, Mike enjoys spending time with his family. They enjoy going to the beach, the mountains, riding horses, going to amusement parks, or just hanging out in the backyard. Mike is also a big sports fanatic and loves watching baseball and football. During football season, Mike can always be found sitting in front of a TV on Sunday afternoon’s watching the games. He is also a major Star Wars fan and is always willing to talk about it at the drop of a hat.

In addition to his novels, Mike has adapted several of his books into screenplays for TV pilots. He’s also written a stage play.  He is always working on another book.
