With a death squad in pursuit a fugitive needs the help of a wounded warrior.
An elite CIA kill squad has located hacker Zenobia Hanley’s Alaska wilderness hideout. With commandos hot on Zee’s heels, she’s saved from capture by her neighbor John Lowry. Zee has kept her yearning for the SEAL, who has a disability, in check to shield him. But, despite her secrets, John’s determined to protect Zee regardless of the risks. Because there’s more at stake this Christmas than just their lives.
Point of view:
3rd person. Alternating POVs between John & Zee. There are a few sections from the antagonist’s POV as well.
I found this series through Ms. Woc Reader’s review and am so glad I did.
I enjoyed this one even more than the first book, Rogue Christmas Operation, which was great. While the storyline for Zee & John’s relationship is completely covered in this book – there’s an overall arc to the Fugitive Heroes: Topaz Unit series that makes these best experienced in order.
I really like Rushdan’s balance of romance and suspense. John & Zee are neighbors and good friends when Zee’s past comes, guns blazing, into their lives. As a retired SEAL and with budding feelings – John refuses to leave her side. They go on the run to follow-up on her leads into why & how the Topaz team was set up. Zee has another big surprise for John (I don’t want to spoil it), but he rises to face all the challenges.
The pacing was great, action scenes were heart pounding, and yes there’s a little steam too. Like with the last book, more answers bring more questions and this ends with a tease for the Dean’s book, Disavowed in Wyoming.
