Note: These books do not stand alone. While each book follows the relationship of one couple, there’s a storyline threaded throughout all of them. They need to be listened to in order starting with Laurent and the Beast. Also, reviews may contain spoilers to previous books.
I was a little worried going into this as Daddy/boy and this type of D/s aren’t generally my cup of tea. However, the ongoing series storylines make it impossible to skip books. That said, I really liked this one.
While I’ve always been wanting more for Jake, it was great to get to know him even better and see him come into his own. I also really enjoyed Vars as a character. Despite his place as Daddy/Dominant – he had a vulnerability as well.
There’s a bit of forced proximity mixed with supernatural forces that the Merikans write so well. I was never able to guess where the story was going and it made it hard to ever push pause.
As with previous books – any solutions seem to come with more problems. I can’t wait to start Gray’s book.
Narration:
I don’t think there’s any words I could use to do justice to Joel Leslie’s performance for this series. Huge cast of characters, almost all men, and he has given them all such unique sounds/personalities that even without names I’d always know who is talking. Effortlessly sliding between accents. Everything is consistent across books making this easy to binge.
