I can’t promise nothing bad will happen, but I can promise I’ll die trying to save you.

J.M. Dabney & Davidson King
The Hunt

Format:
Audiobook

Publisher’s Synopsis:
Disgraced detective turned private investigator, Ray Clancy, left the force with a case unsolved. Finding the killer was no longer his problem, but it still haunted him. How long would he survive the frustration of not knowing before he gave into the compulsion of his nature to solve the crime?

Server, Andrew Shay, existed where he didn’t feel he belonged, living behind the guise of a costume. Yet it paid the bills, and he refused to complain about the little things in life. One night he returned home from work to find his roommate dead and the killer still there. Afraid and alone, his life spiraled and he didn’t know what to do. Could a detective at his core and a scared young man join forces to bring down the killer in their midst?

Point of view:
1st person. Alternating character POV by chapter.

Rellim’s Thoughts:
This was a great balance of mystery, suspense, and romance for me. While instalove isn’t usually my favorite – the sort of forced proximity and highly stressful situations worked here. I liked both Ray & Andy as individuals and as a couple. I’m a huge fan of age gap and this 45-year-old former detective turned Private Investigator and 28-year-old waiter duo complemented each other well.

Their relationship was low angst and all the drama came from hunting for and being hunted by a serial killer. I liked the twists and turns in the investigation and that I didn’t figure out who was involved until the characters did. Enjoyable story.

Narration:
Casting Tor Thom as Ray and Kirt Graves as Andy was absolutely perfect. Plus, they each did their opposite characters and the secondary people well. I really enjoyed both their performances. Great listen.
