This story is book 2 in Cora Kenborn’s Carrera Cartel trilogy. While Mateo & Leighton’s story stands on its own, best enjoyed after listening to book 1.
Going to admit I was already half way in love with Mateo at the end of Blurred Red Lines. I was so excited for him to get his own HEA. Learning he was paired with Brody’s sister, Leighton was a bonus.
I really enjoyed this second chance, star crossed lovers story. It’s Cartel so this one starts off with a murder and keeps going with even more suspense and action. Mateo Cortes is sent to protect Leighton Harcourt without realizing that he already knows her. While I don’t usually enjoy flashbacks, Kenborn used them sparingly and it didn’t slow or disrupt the current storyline. There’s several misunderstandings, big secrets, and constant treachery. So good.
I enjoyed Mateo & Leighton coming back together, fighting enemies from all angles, and getting their forever in a way neither thought possible. I feel vague in my review but I don’t want to spoil any of the many surprises.
I’m ready for Brody’s book (and conclusion to the trilogy), Drawn Blue Lines.
Narration:
Sarah Puckett & Aaron Shedlock were amazing. Terrific accents especially – the entire performance was wonderful. The kind of audio you get truly lost in.
