Publisher’s Synopsis:
Today’s Special: The Undercover Heiress!
On the run after a bad breakup, wealthy city girl Arden Wexford ends up stranded in small town Sweet Briar. When hunky chef Brandon Danielson comes to her rescue, offering shelter and a waitressing job until her car is fixed, she reluctantly accepts. But, wanting Brandon to like her for her, not for her money, she doesn’t mention her rich roots. The closer they get, the harder it is to untell the lie.
Brandon came here to start over. Things weren’t as they seemed with his ex-fiancée, and he got burned! But is it out of the frying pan, into the fire for Brandon as things heat up with this very special waitress?
Point of view:
3rd person. Alternating between Brandon & Arden’s perspectives.
Rellim’s Thoughts:
This is book 2 in the Sweet Briar Sweethearts series by Kathy Douglass. This book stands well on its own, but there’s updates from book 1, How to Steal the Lawman’s Heart and characters in future books are introduced. So these are best experienced in order.
Cute & sweet closed door romance (nothing more than kissing). I liked the forced proximity of Arden’s car breaking down and being stuck in town while no hotel rooms are available so she’s in the guest room of her rescuer. Brandon and Arden have both been hurt by past relationships and have sworn off finding lasting love.
Things are a little slow for a bit with the back and forth of being attracted but trying to deny it so as not to get feelings involved. It picked up, there’s several sweet dates, falling in love, and then Arden’s secrets coming crashing down around her.
I liked how Douglass brought them back together again and the HFN. These bring all the emotions but are also so easy to read. Looking forward to book 3, The Rancher and the City Girl.
