Publisher’s Synopsis:
Off-limits. Far too young. Utterly tempting.
Former Navy SEAL Jericho “Trip” Strong vows to stay away from his gorgeous neighbor Sydney Merrick. But, when she gets caught up in his trouble, they find themselves locked up together in a windowless room.
The evil entities behind Project Phoenix fear Jericho’s increasing powers and the fact that they can’t control him. As a result, they call for his immediate termination.
Scheduled to be euthanized at first light, the clock is ticking and Jericho refuses to let the only woman he’s ever cared about get hurt. As they begin to realize there’s no escape, Sydney makes Jericho an enticing offer and, as much as he tries to resist, his willpower begins to crumble.
After all, it’s their last night and they have nothing left to lose. Except themselves to the simmering passion that threatens to ignite them both.
Point of view:
3rd person. Mostly Jericho & Sydney’s perspectives, but some from other team members.
Rellim’s Thoughts:
This is book 3 in the Project Phoenix series. While each book covers a single couple, there’s ongoing story arcs that build off events from previous books and the series should be read in order. This review may contain spoilers from earlier books.
This one didn’t work for me as well as the others. Yet, I feel like some of it is just there were too many themes for me that aren’t my personal preference – not bad writing, if that makes any sense.
“I don’t want to die a virgin”, “I’ve slept around trying to forget you”, and “I don’t deserve you so I’m going to hurt you for your own good” always rub me the wrong way. Throw in some TSTL on Sydney’s part and I really struggled to connect with the relationship aspect of the story. Despite the fact that Jericho & Sydney have known each other for a while and professed their love, I didn’t really feel their HEA.
I did like the parts that further the project Phoenix plot lines and the action scenes, but would have liked to see those better developed.
I still plan to continue the series and I am looking forward to Max’s book.
About the author:
Ever since I snuck a romance novel off my aunt’s shelf when I was 10, I’ve loved the genre! I’m even named after a heroine from a romance book that my Grandma read while my Mom was pregnant. I think it was meant to be and I’m so excited to share my fast-paced, action/adventure love stories with you.
I’m also a screenwriter and have written over 15 scripts, some of them produced. I currently live in Los Angeles, but I’m originally from Toledo, Ohio, and visit home whenever I can. Rescuing animals is a passion and my cousin and I have fostered and helped home more than 300 dogs (and a few kitties!).
