1st person. Alternating between Brennan & Reese.
Rellim’s Thoughts:
Tal Bauer is always great at writing romantic suspense and I wasn’t disappointed. I loved Secret Service Agent Reese Theriot and President Brennan Walker. The alternating POVs was perfect for getting to know each of them, seeing their relationship evolve as well as the details of White House life from their perspectives.
My own personal challenge is that I often struggle to connect when authors alternate between past and present, especially in dual POV like this. The pacing lagged a bit at times, hindered by excessive internal exposition.
Despite that – this was a great read with a solid mix of worldbulding, suspense, action, and romance. I enjoyed the insight into both men’s minds as well as the inner working ls of the Secret Service. When the President goes missing headed for a clandestine meeting, the distrust is strong. Reese’s investigation is thrilling and emotionally wracking.
This is a stand alone, but there’s a part of me that would love for one of the characters to get his own book. I would love to see more of this world.
