Secret Service

It’s about protecting him—not just physically, but protecting everything he’s trying to accomplish.

Secret Service

Publisher’s Synopsis:
President Brennan Walker captivated me from the moment I walked into his Oval Office.

He’s a mystery I’m determined to unlock. I don’t know what’s hiding inside Brennan’s gaze when he looks my way, or why black lightning keeps crashing between us. He’s a storm at midnight, a dark moon rising, trouble on the horizon.

I’m on the verge of sliding into discoveries and truths that maybe I’m not ready for.

I’ve never been with a man, but now? I’m dreaming about his bleu clair eyes and wondering what it would feel like if his lips touched mine. There’s something here, something between us, like the oxygen we’re breathing is igniting before each inhale.

But he’s the president. I’m his Secret Service agent. He’s the job.

He’s forbidden.

If we cross this line, Brennan could lose everything.

I know I have to walk away.

But I can’t.

How much are we willing to risk?

And how badly will this go up in flames?

Point of view:
1st person. Alternating between Brennan & Reese.

Rellim’s Thoughts:
Tal Bauer is always great at writing romantic suspense and I wasn’t disappointed. I loved Secret Service Agent Reese Theriot and President Brennan Walker. The alternating POVs was perfect for getting to know each of them, seeing their relationship evolve as well as the details of White House life from their perspectives.

My own personal challenge is that I often struggle to connect when authors alternate between past and present, especially in dual POV like this. The pacing lagged a bit at times, hindered by excessive internal exposition.

Despite that – this was a great read with a solid mix of worldbulding, suspense, action, and romance. I enjoyed the insight into both men’s minds as well as the inner working ls of the Secret Service. When the President goes missing headed for a clandestine meeting, the distrust is strong. Reese’s investigation is thrilling and emotionally wracking.

This is a stand alone, but there’s a part of me that would love for one of the characters to get his own book. I would love to see more of this world.

About the author:
Tal Bauer is an author of gay romantic suspense/thriller novels.

The world needs more gay heroes, gay love stories, and powerful women kicking ass. I try to write those stories. With a background ranging from law enforcement to humanitarian aid, my stories are global in scope and with diverse characters in all roles. My goal is to help normalize gay characters as action heroes and to bring to life strong, dynamic, holistic women in all of my novels.
