Operation: Dead Drop

Format:
ebook

Publisher’s Synopsis:
Fallon
A badass through and through, I live for excitement and the daredevil in me thrives on danger.
Working for Slater Security, a private company that specializes in protection, defense and surveillance, is the perfect job for me.
But lately something is missing, and no amount of action can fill the aching hole inside of me.
My current job is providing protection for a super model with a stalker. God, help me.
And just when I think it’s going to be smooth sailing, everything blows up: my client and I get abducted, my suitcase containing my personal arsenal disappears and my heart nearly stops when I see him.

Ryan
A geek through and through, I live for all things tech and the “daredevil” in me thrives on playing video games.
I’m a med-school dropout who decided he’d rather start an IT company than be surrounded by blood and guts in an ER room.
My best friend convinces me to take a much-needed vacation and that’s when I see her.
The uptight, ebony-haired beauty is out of my league, but Fate throws us together on an adventure complete with jewel thieves, high-speed chases and a safe combination that only I know.
Now the bad guys want me because my photographic memory doesn’t let me forget anything. And after the adventure of a lifetime with Fallon, I know one thing for sure: forgetting her isn’t an option. But can the geek get the girl?

Point of view:
3rd person. Alternating from Fallon & Ryan’s perspectives.

Rellim’s Thoughts:
DNF @ 40%

This is a spin-off from Gracyk’s Project Phoenix series. It stands well on its own and can be read without that background.

I loved the idea of a badass female operative contrasted with a geeky guy. Unfortunately there’s too many things here that just don’t work for me. Insta love isn’t my favorite, but combined with unrealistic & absurd situations – I just couldn’t continue. I prefer romantic suspense with more fully developed plots and operatives showing their skills.

I am going to continue the Project Phoenix series though. I think the sci-fi aspect smoothed some of the issues here.

Specific issues (contains spoilers):
Fallon is supposed to be bodyguarding a super model with a stalker, but instead is spending more time off with Ryan. Fallon doesn’t call Slater security to update them about a kidnapping, lost gun case, or any of the changes in plans or to ask for backup. Ryan and Fallon are goofing off on a playground while the model is by the pool being watched by hotel security.

About the author:
Ever since I snuck a romance novel off my aunt’s shelf when I was 10, I’ve loved the genre! I’m even named after a heroine from a romance book that my Grandma read while my Mom was pregnant. I think it was meant to be and I’m so excited to share my fast-paced, action/adventure love stories with you.

I’m also a screenwriter and have written over 15 scripts, some of them produced. I currently live in Los Angeles, but I’m originally from Toledo, Ohio, and visit home whenever I can. Rescuing animals is a passion and my cousin and I have fostered and helped home more than 300 dogs (and a few kitties!).
