Publisher’s Synopsis:
Tortured for the past year, Cassian “Ghost” Stone has been stripped of his identity and dignity. A shell of a man, he’s haunted, scarred and on the run from the controlling clutches of Project Phoenix.

Lost and confused, he collapses, praying that death will finally end his suffering. Instead, he awakens to a blonde-haired angel and no memories of his past. But the demons inside his head are clawing to get out and vivid nightmares force him to confront the atrocities he’s committed against others, including his former Navy SEAL team.

When Hailey Lockland finds the injured, half-naked man, her empathetic heart refuses to let her walk away. She yearns to help the tormented stranger and can see past his haunted eyes and endless scars.

Cassian doesn’t believe he can be saved, but Hailey is determined to be the light to his darkness. When he vows vengeance against Veronica, the woman who broke him, they find themselves thrust into a showdown 30,000 feet in the air…and Hailey knows only one of them will make it back down to the ground alive.

Point of view:
3rd person. Mostly Cassian & Hailey’s perspectives, but some from other team members.

Rellim’s Thoughts:
This is book 5 in the Project Phoenix series. While each book covers a single couple, there’s ongoing story arcs that build off events from previous books and the series should be read in order, starting with Reactivated: Oz. This review may contain spoilers earlier books.

This was like The Bourne Identity with a dialed up romance element. Cassian awakes with no clue about the last year of his life, why he’s nearly bleeding to death in a random bathroom, or why strangers call him Ghost. Hailey finds him injured, works to help him heal, and gives him the time to recover his memories. It’s not all pretty and this was really emotional – for everyone, but especially Cassian.

I liked the forced proximity with Hailey and Cassian having weeks to get to know each other. The addition of the foster dog. Then reuniting with the team.

As usual, Veronica is stirring up trouble. More revelations about Project Phoenix and who is now running the activations. This creates even more opportunity for action, mystery, & suspense.

I liked Cassian & Hailey’s HEA, including some big news for other members of the team. I’m looking forward to Deacon’s book next… but admit to being really intrigued about what Gracyk has in mind for Aiden.

About the author:
Ever since I snuck a romance novel off my aunt’s shelf when I was 10, I’ve loved the genre! I’m even named after a heroine from a romance book that my Grandma read while my Mom was pregnant. I think it was meant to be and I’m so excited to share my fast-paced, action/adventure love stories with you.

I’m also a screenwriter and have written over 15 scripts, some of them produced. I currently live in Los Angeles, but I’m originally from Toledo, Ohio, and visit home whenever I can. Rescuing animals is a passion and my cousin and I have fostered and helped home more than 300 dogs (and a few kitties!).
