Publisher’s Synopsis:
John and Crystal, a Bonnie & Clyde-esque young couple, become stranded in the desert while in the midst of a spree of carnage and mayhem. As they lie in wait for their next victim, a car approaches over the horizon. Will it prove to be their salvation or has fate sent its own brand of justice into their trap?
Point of view:
3rd person. Alternating perspectives between John, Crystal, & David.
Rellim’s Thoughts:
Twisty suspense/thriller short. I’m not always impressed by stand alone novellas – but this was a wild ride. Shedlock succinctly yet evocatively describes the characters and locations. While I may have guessed the ultimate conclusion, the story was not predictable.
Enjoyable, quick listen. As far as I can tell this is his only authored work, but I’d love to see more.
Narration:
I’m already a fan of Macleod Andrews and this is a great example of why. Distinct character voices, accents, and connecting emotionally with the story. Great fit for Shedlock’s writing.
Content Warnings (possible spoilers):
Murders are graphically described
