Guarded by the Marshal

For the first time in my life, I longed for a man’s lips on my own, to feel his body moving against me.

Publisher’s Synopsis:
Max
The moment she takes the stand I’m lost, drowning in the details of her story escaping an infamous cult’s compound. When I’m the next US marshal assigned to her protection detail, I know it’s a mistake to make it personal. Forced together day and night, her innocence begs me to show her just how good the right touch can be.

Rachel
One mistake. Two months of my life gone. I thought testifying would be the end, but little did I know the man who hurt me won’t stop until I’m dead. The marshal escorting me to witness protection is not what I expect, but can’t stop wanting. He’s years older, arrogant and just as broken as me. This can’t happen between us, but our long road trip makes it impossible to stop.

Every stolen kiss is forbidden, putting our hearts in danger for when I vanish into WITSEC. Each glance and unspoken word between us is a risk we shouldn’t take.

We let our guard down thinking I’m safe.
But the men who kidnapped me will stop at nothing until I’m back under their control.

Point of view:
1st person. Alternating between Rachel & Max’s perspectives.

Rellim’s Thoughts:
There were parts of this I really enjoyed and some that just didn’t quite work for me.

I like more and stronger developed suspense than this offered. There was a little at the beginning and bit more at the end – but this mostly a lot of sex and a little romance. Max’s supposedly honed Army Ranger skills weren’t really shown and he came across as bumbling at times. There were a few procedural things that didn’t make sense.

I did enjoy the character’s personalities though. Max was an interesting mix of goofy and alpha male which worked great with Rachel’s quick wit and desire to be cared for. I like the small town and forced proximity aspects.

Unfortunately, as much as these two had great sexual chemistry – I needed a little more substance in their relationship to feel their HEA.

The parts I did like do make me want to try the next book in the series, Cherished by the Agent.

Content Warnings (possible spoilers):
During testimony at a trial Rachel details her kidnapping and imprisonment in a cult that includes ongoing sexual assault. She & Max are attacked. She’s kidnapped again & there’s an attempted sexual assault including graphic descriptions by the perp of what he plans to do to her.

About the author:
Kennedy lives in Dallas, TX with her husband, 8-year-old son, and two Goldendoodles. A bookworm at heart Kennedy loves to snuggle up in bed, or by the campfire, with an unputdownable book. Her novels are stuffed full of humorous banter, the edge of your seat suspense, and enough steam for a great facial. If you like your heroines strong yet vulnerable and sexy, tattooed heroes who can’t keep their hands off their leading ladies then this author is the one for you.
