I could wrangle cows with horns longer than my legs on their heads, kicked ass during undergrad and vet school, worked in a large clinic in the city, and now ran a massive cattle ranch, and yet… This man sitting beside me might prove to be my biggest adventure yet.

Publisher’s Synopsis:
Anne
When the US marshals need my guest house to hide a witness I’m eager for the break from my monotonous life.
I can’t know anything about him or why he entered witness protection, though that doesn’t stop the immediate attraction to the mysterious man.
We couldn’t be more opposite, but our chemistry is addictive, leaving sparks of fire in its wake.
Hard body covered in tattoos, soul-piercing blue eyes, and a filthy mouth, he’s everything I’ve fantasized about but never had.
Grayson
I’m a wanted man, forced into hiding by the feds. Nothing matters but laying low until I meet her. Confident, sexy as hell, and my new warden, I want her the moment our eyes meet. Stuck on her ranch the long days morph into hot nights. She pushes and I pull, a game of wills I’m determined to win.
Getting involved is reckless.
More than our hearts are on the line.
Because the king pin who wants me dead will find a way to make me pay.
And I refuse to let her get hurt in the crossfire.
Point of view:
1st person. Alternating between Grayson & Anne’s perspectives.
Rellim’s Thoughts:
This is the second book in Mitchell’s In Clear Sight series. Some events in this are concurrent to parts of book 1, Guarded by the Marshal. This stands well on its own, but they’re best read in order.
Definitely heavier on the sex & romance than the suspense aspect – but I enjoyed that there was more mystery this time around. Gray & Anne were interesting characters. Gray’s time undercover for the DEA has him in hiding at Anne’s ranch.
As a Texan myself, I could relate to a lot of the story’s setting and it was fun to “see” Gray experience ranching and all it entails for the first time in his life. Anne’s love of animals and her desire to keep the family business running shown through.
I especially liked that Anne is a strong, intelligent, and capable woman. Gray supports and encourages her without trying to manage or mansplain. But he’s definitely in charge between the sheets (or on the table, against the wall, etc 😉). It works well for both of them.
Enjoyed getting to their HFN. Looking forward to Shade & Trap’s book, Saved by the Officers.
